• Yellow Bird Project

The designers say: Yellow Bird Project had an existing brand and online store when the founders came to Dynamo. YBP collaborates with independent musicians and artists to produce t-shirts and other goods to benefit charities and socially-conscious organizations. The shirts are designed by the bands themselves, and the profits generated are turned over to the bands’ charity of choice. In order to accomplish everything set out in our vision for the brand's re-design, we knew we needed a powerful, flexible e-commerce toolset that didn't impede our creative standards. Spree was a perfect fit for us, both in terms of technology and adaptability. We are continuously working on custom extensions and contributing to the growth of Spree as often as possible. YBP is now our flagship online store thanks to everything Spree enabled us to accomplish.

The Rails Envy team turned to Spree when they needed a Rails based store for selling their screencast content. This site makes use of Paypal's Website Payments Standard for which a custom Spree extension was written. Since the site sells downloadable content, an S3 Product Extension was developed to support downloadable content from Amazon's S3 service. The website also allows users to sign up for a newsletter. This functionality was later shared with the community in the form of the subscription manager extension.

  • Slouchback

    Slouchback

    www.slouchback.com

When setting out to build SlouchBack.com, we knew we wanted a modern, flexible site for our unique approach to dorm furniture - and that meant deploying some of the latest web technologies not often seen in typical e-commerce operations. Spree to the rescue. We have been blown away by Spree's powerful built-in functionality as well as its significant extensibility. The development of SlouchBack.com largely consisted of a number of custom Spree extensions: one to override all customer-facing views and others to support the Amazon Flexible Payments Service, implement discount code functionality to tie in with our on-the-ground marketing efforts, and add images tied directly to product variations. Spree's modular approach keeps these extensions small and quick to develop - we have many more planned!
