Spree is different from most e-commerce platforms since its 100% Open Source. Unlike our competition, we don’t charge for so-called enterprise features. We do offer commercial products but there is no “lock in” and you are free to take your code, data and business elsewhere.

Spree has been continuously refined over the years based on real world experience from deploying using it to implement thousands of stores around the world. Since so many people are working with the code, security issues and other problems are identified and resolved quickly. We also have an active mailing list and IRC channel that provide free community based support to developers and store owners.

Use third party extensions to address any missing functionality
Spree has been designed as a light weight platform that is fully extensible. One person’s “must have” feature is another persons “bloat.” Spree provides a reasonable set of features out of the box and makes it easy to add the rest of what you need through third party extensions.
