Yesterday we announced the brand new Spree 1.3.0 release. Even though that release was packed full of awesome goodness (including a major redesign to the admin), we didn’t want to stop there. So, in the spirit of the holidays, we bring you one last gift.
Announcing the New “Spree Fancy” Theme
We have just released a new open source theme called ‘spree_fancy.’ The purpose of this theme is to show how Spree can be easily styled to make a nice responsive looking webdesign. It’s fully responsive and looks great on mobile devices right out of the box.
Once again Alexey (aka devilcoders) has outdone himself with his amazing designwork and coding.
100% Open Source
Clone it now
As with all good things in life, the new theme is 100% open source and is in available in Github as the spree/spree_fancy project. In addition to being an example of one possible direction for customizing Spree, it should also be a useful jumping off point if you’d like to create your own theme.
README contains the very simple instructions for installing this theme in your existing Spree 1.3 store. Just add the gem to your
Gemfile as follows:
gem 'spree_fancy', :git => 'git://github.com/spree/spree_fancy.git'
Then run the following from the command line:
$ bundle install $ bundle exec rails g spree_fancy:install
Try the Personal Online Sandbox
We’ve also updated the hosted sandbox with the new theme so it’s easy to try it out yourself without even having to install it on a machine. What’s that you say? You didn’t know that we have a personal online sandbox? It’s primariy intended for people who want to try Spree without having to install it, but we have a lot of busy developers who like to try before they install. So go ahead and try it out now if you want!
Rails Dog Radio Theme to be Discontinued
Unfortunately we’re going to discontinue our old friend the “Rails Dog Radio” theme. We haven’t been keeping it up lately and its really starting to show its age. We’re just going to replace it with this new theme and keep this up to date with future versions of Spree.
Tell Us What You Think
So what do you think of the new theme? Let us know in the comments and help keep our designer motivated!
